A body found in the Hudson River earlier this week has been identified as the Hoboken man who disappeared a month ago after he went for a run following a night out with friends.
Hoboken police said Wednesday that there were no signs of trauma or indications of foul play in the death of Andrew Jarzyk, so it remains a mystery how he ended up in the water.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, Andrew Jarzyk's brother Steve Jarzyk thanked friends for their support and said the search had a "very tragic ending." The 27-year-old bank employee disappeared after leaving friends at a restaurant in Hoboken March 29.
"Andrew's life on this earth was indeed cut very short," Steve Jarzyk wrote. "If you've crossed paths with him over these 27 years, consider yourself lucky."
Relatives say Jarzyk was with friends at the West Five Supper Club on Madison Street the night of March 29. Around 1 a.m., he apparently told them he would be right back and never returned.
Surveillance video from a restaurant shows him running in exercise clothes near the river at about 2 a.m. Another camera captures him jogging into a park nearly a minute later -- and then he vanishes.
In his Facebook post, Steve Jarzyk wrote the coming days and months would be difficult for his family, but his brother would be a part of them forever.
"Grieve, but also smile," Steve Jarzyk wrote. "The beautiful thing about this earth is that the sun will rise again tomorrow. "Remember that his memories will shine on us every day when that sun does rise in the morning."
