No one can find her, but this snake has quite a following.
The poisonous Egyptian cobra that vanished from its quarters in the Bronx Zoo's Reptile House last week, forcing the closure of the exhibit, now has more than 75,000 followers on a spoof Twitter account that imagines the snake enjoying its freedom around town.
Zoo workers remain confident the elusive snake, missing since Friday, is still somewhere in the Reptile House, and say the 20-inch cobra will likely come out when it needs food or water.
Right now, zoo workers say the venomous reptile is probably too frightened to move, which is why animal specialists haven't been able to find it despite their dogged efforts.
In the meantime, some crafty Tweeter, assuming the snake-sona of the wily reptile, has been updating the public on the animal's imagined whereabouts as it tours the city.
Using the handle @BronxZoosCobra and describing herself as "an Egyptian cobra out on the town," the faux reptile has been tweeting about vegan restaurants, trips to Wall Street and even sent a direct tweet to Charlie Sheen explaining why cobra venom is better than Tiger's blood.
She's even snacking her way through the city.
“Enjoying a cupcake @magnoliabakery,” BronxZoosCobra posted. “This is going straight to my hips. Oh wait. I don’t have hips. Yesss!"
Another tweet reads: “Leaving Wall Street. These guys make my skin crawl.”
If cobras can tweet, can they talk on the phone and be interviewed?
