Manhole Fires Create Traffic Headache on Ninth Avenue

A pair of manhole explosions on Manhattan's West Side caused delays in the area Friday afternoon.

Con Edison said the explosions on the corner of 45th Street and Ninth Avenue at about 4 p.m. caused a small fire underground.

No one was hurt, but the fire was causing delays on Ninth Avenue from 45th to 57th streets as crews make repairs.

The explosions follow earlier reports of smoking manholes in the same area.

A cause of the explosion hasn't been determined.
