A man who was found guilty of killing a teen during a botched robbery will spend at least 22 years in prison, authorities say.

Shaquille Escalona, 21, was sentenced Wednesday to 22 years to life in prison for this role in the 2014 shooting death of 19-year-old Aaron Parkinson, District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said.

Escalona, of East New York, Brooklyn, was convicted in June of second-degree murder, second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree attempted robbery.

A codefendant, Ajuul Manwarring, 23, was tried separately earlier this year and was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced in May to 18 years to life in prison.

According to prosecutors, on Dec. 29, 2014, Parkinson was communicating with Manwarring about a transaction involving forged credit cards and Manwarring texted a meeting location.

Subsequently, Parkinson and a friend allegedly arrived at the location in a livery car about an hour later and met with Escalona and his accomplice who were allegedly there to buy forged credit cards. Escalona allegedly opened the passenger door, pointed a gun at Parkinson and his friend and said, “Give it up,” according to prosecutors.

Escalona, then, pulled Parkinson out of the car and allegedly fired six shots, striking Parkinson in the body and grazing the friend’s back shoulder, according to evidence, which included forensics, surveillance videos and phone records, authorities say.

The livery driver allegedly drove to Brookdale Hospital where Parkinson was pronounced dead.

Escalona and Manwarring were arrested in March 2015.
