UPDATE: Disabled Vet Who Was Stabbed Speaks

The man was attacked around 6 a.m. when he approached the group of seven women and one teen as the train was entering the 23rd Street station.

Police said the man was assaulted after he asked them to lower their voices. One of the women stabbed him in the left shoulder.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, officials said.

Police took the women into custody at the station and a knife was recovered, police said.

Subway riders outside the Union Square station Sunday afternoon said they would have probably just ignored the group to avoid any trouble.

"I wouldn't tell them to quiet down," said Chris Matthews, of Brooklyn. "I got shot before, so I mind my business."
