A city sanitation going the wrong way down a one-way street in Brooklyn hit and killed a man Thursday morning, sources say.

Surveillance video shows the truck going the wrong way near Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Avenue in Crown Heights, then suddenly stopping after it apparently hit the victim, 37-year-old Alberto Leal of Brooklyn.

The truck then continues in the wrong direction and reverses at the intersection, and pulls back down the road in the correct direction when police arrive at the scene, video shows.

The driver, 33-year-old Aaron Gilchrist, was arrested on multiple vehicle and traffic violations, police said.

A spokesman for the sanitation department says Gilchrist, who's been an employee since December 2005, has been suspended. The department is fully cooperating with the NYPD in its investigation, and an internal safety investigation is also underway.

A woman who lives in the neighborhood, Aura Gispan, said, "There's a school right here, children in the neighborhood. It's really disturbing to see something like this happen."
