A man allegedly killed his mother at their New Jersey home and left her body in a detached garage on the property, authorities say.
Bergen County prosecutors say 30-year-old Jesus Lopez is charged with murder, desecration of human remains and two weapons counts in the death of 56-year-old Susana Lopez. It's not known if he's retained an attorney.
Paramus police went to the Spring Valley Road home on Tuesday after they were asked to do a welfare check. They spoke with Jesus Lopez, who was inside the home, and a subsequent investigation determined that Susana Lopez had been killed there days earlier and that her remains were on the property.
Prosecutors say an initial court appearance for Jesus Lopez has not been scheduled. He could face a life sentence if convicted.
