NY Congresswoman Falls, Breaks Leg

She was at an event in New York City Tuesday honoring women leaders

New York Rep. Louise Slaughter broke her leg in a fall in New York City Tuesday.

The 82-year-old Democrat's district office in Rochester says Slaughter was at an event honoring women leaders in public service when she fell.

Her office says doctors expect she'll be back at work when the House reconvenes April 16.

In the meantime, though, she'll miss Wednesday's White House signing ceremony for a bill to ban members of Congress and other federal workers from profiting on nonpublic information learned on the job.

Slaughter has championed ending insider trading in Congress and had planned to be with President Barack Obama for the signing.

Slaughter is seeking re-election in her western New York district. She's being challenged by Republican Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks.
