3 Arrested After Chase Closes Lincoln Tunnel

Authorities say three people are under arrest after a police chase that temporarily closed the south tube of the Lincoln Tunnel between New Jersey and New York.

Authorities say three people are under arrest after a police chase that temporarily closed the south tube of the Lincoln Tunnel between New Jersey and New York.

The tube was closed from shortly after 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

New Jersey state police Trooper Lawrence Peele says the incident started at about 7:30 p.m. when a trooper attempted to stop a minivan in Newark.

Peele says the driver did not stop. He says officers followed the vehicle to the Lincoln Tunnel.

New Jersey state police notified the Port Authority police, who are responsible for the tunnel.

Multiple witnesses on Twitter reported seeing the vehicle flying into the tunnel and blowing past tolls, with police cars following.

The Port Authority police stopped the minivan on the New York side of the tunnel and arrested the driver and two passengers.

No details on the charges against them were immediately available.
