Lauren Scala

Reporter

Lauren Scala serves as the traffic reporter on NBC 4 New York’s "Today in New York" weekdays from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Born and raised on Long Island, Scala reports on the roads and rails she's been traveling her entire life. For years, Scala commuted to and from New York City on the both the Long Island and the Metro North Railroads.  She recognizes the responsibility that goes along with reporting from the roads and rails during the morning commute and is always working to bring viewers the latest and most accurate information.

Lauren is also an Emmy award-winning features reporter for the daily lifestyle show "New York Live", where she is often seen reporting on and enjoying the newest restaurants and food trends around town. Her dining segments also appear on Taxi TV in a weekly segment called “Backseat Bites.”

Scala officially joined NBC 4 New York in the spring of 2010 to host the station's Interactive Trivia Game, a fast-paced, live experience made up of ten questions, where local viewers compete against one another on various topics by using their cell phones, computers, and touch screen devices. Before taking on that role, Lauren had appeared on the program regularly as an on-air contributor for Time Out New York magazine.

While at the station, Scala has hosted New York City's first ever local reality competition series called "The Great American Health Challenge."

Prior to joining NBC New York, Scala was a segment producer and host for Time Out New York's On Demand channel on Time Warner Cable.

Scala got her start behind the scenes when she was just 19 years old. She has a solid and diverse background in the entertainment industry that includes film, music, magazines, and television.  She has worked for major companies like DreamWorks Pictures, MGM, and Paramount Pictures, and J Records.

Scala lived in the Bronx and graduated from Fordham University in 2004, where she received a degree in Communications. She truly prides herself on being a local.  She knows New York -- how to navigate it to get where you need to go, and also where to go to find the best of everything the Big Apple has to offer.

Scala currently lives and lives it up in Manhattan, takes the subway, and gets frustrated sitting in traffic... just like everyone else!
