A kite surfer who reported missing off the Jersey shore on Thanksgiving wasn't actually missing at all, the Coast Guard says.

The surfer himself actually called police to let them know that he was alright on Friday morning, hours after emergency workers began scouring 550 square miles of shoreline.

It all started when a 911 caller reported that the kite surfer, reportedly wearing all black, was seen drifting out to sea after falling from the board about 500 yards off Carson Inlet at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday.

But the surfer told authorities that aft he disappeared from view - he actually cut his kite free and paddled ashore before returning his home.
