An 18-year-old Brooklyn woman was beaten to death with a hammer following an ongoing dispute with her stepfather, police say.
The suspect, 53-year-old Jean Simon, fled the scene and led police on a dramatic chase that ended in a Queens cemetery, where police apprehended him after his car overturned.
He was charged with second-degree murder on Friday. The name of his attorney was not immediately available.
Police say they found Lakeshia Seymour unconscious and suffering from severe head trauma in front of a house in Canarsie Thursday afternoon.
Police investigating a homicide on 102nd Street began looking for Simon at about 2:45 p.m., and located his Mercedes traveling on Vermont Avenue off the Jackie Robinson Parkway in Queens.
When police tried to stop the vehicle, Simon allegedly took off and crashed on the road, overturning the car, according to police. When a passerby attempted to help the suspect, he pulled a gun on the passerby.
The driver fled on foot into a nearby cemetery, prompting officers to call in aviation and K-9 units. He was caught about 20 minutes later, found hiding in heavy brush next to the cemetery.
