Funeral Set for Girl Killed Taking Out Trash on Christmas in Newark

In Newark, calls are growing louder to stop the violence that’s terrorizing the neighborhoods. The city has seen the highest number of murders in over 7 years, and some of the victims are children. Lori Bordonaro reports.

Hundreds of people are expected to be in attendance Tuesday for the funeral of a Newark 13-year-old girl who was shot and killed taking out the trash on Christmas Day.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Elizabeth, N.J., for Zainee Hailey, who was killed along with teen neighbor Kasson Morman last week when gunfire erupted on the street. Hailey seven-year-old brother was also struck by a bullet in the latest incidence of violence in the city's deadliest year since 2007.

The killings put Newark's homicide count over 100 for 2013, the first year since 2007 the city has reached that mark.

No arrests have been made in the teens' deaths.
