Severe weather has moved out of the area and thunderstorm alerts have expired after a day of wild weather in the tri-state.
Throughout the day there were tornado warnings in parts of New York and New Jersey, plus thunderstorm warnings and flood watches.
There were even unconfirmed reports of funnel clouds near Wayne, N.J.
In Denville, N.J., residents reported downed trees and damage that they said looked like the work of a tornado. Mayor Ted Hussa told NBC New York that the municipal building had briefly lost power, and rain was heavy at times.
"All of a sudden, the skies open up and it pours," he said.
Gov. Cuomo activated the state emergency operations center to monitor the weather amid reports of high winds and flooding. Tens of thousands of customers were without power in the morning, and Newark Liberty International Airport saw two-hour delays.
This storm produced hail, high winds and cloud-to-ground lightning. Authorities say a lightning strike was the likely cause of a fire that damaged a 19th century church in upstate New York.

A few isolated downpours over eastern Long Island will move offshore and drier air is expected to move in. Skies should clear overnight and sunshine and temps near 70 degrees are expected on Friday.
