Five Dozen Firefighters Battle Apartment Fire That Seriously Injured One: FDNY

Several good Samaritans helped others save their neighbors from a fire in the Bronx. Ida Siegal reports.

Five dozen firefighters battled a raging fire in the Bronx early Thursday that seriously injured at least one person, the FDNY says.

Twelve different units and 60 firefighters rushed to the six-story apartment building on Sherman Avenue in Concourse after the flames broke around 2:45 a.m., officials said.

One person was taken to an area hospital in serious condition, firefighters said.

The blaze started on the fourth floor of the building, however, it wasn't clear what may have sparked the fire.

Video from the scene shows a pile of burned rubble on the sidewalk next to the building.
