Firefighters continued to battle a large blaze on Long Island late into the evening Thursday, working to knock out hot spots.
More than 200 firefighters from 11 companies responded to the fire in a mixed-use three-story building on Main Street in Port Washington. Officials say the fire began around 1 p.m. The building, which has three storefronts and 11 apartments, is about 100 years old.
No injuries have been reported, though dozens of people have been left homeless.
Authorities are still investigating what caused the fire. Officials say workers were using propane on the roof of the building before the fire started, but it remains unclear if that played a role.
The Long Island Power Authority cut power to the area surrounding the building, though the nearby LIRR was not affected.
