A fire ripped through an Upper East Side building Thursday morning, authorities said.
The flames broke out in the basement of the building on Second Avenue near East 94th Street at about 6:15 a.m., fire officials said.The building houses private residences and a restaurant on the ground floor.
The fire extended up the walls of the building, authorities said.
Blocks of Second Avenue in the vicinity of the fire were closed to traffic as firefighters battled the blaze.
No injuries were immediately reported.
