Authorities are investigating after a suspicious fire tore through a three-story building in Brooklyn Tuesday, destroying homes on two floors and sending three residents to the hospital with minor injuries related to burns and smoke inhalation.
Five people were displaced by the fire, which consumed the two residential floors of the building on Nostrand Avenue around noon, officials said.
Fire officials said the blaze was considered suspicious because of the amount of fire at the scene when responders arrived. Firefighters helped victims get out through fire escapes as the flames rapidly consumed their belongings.
Cell phone video showed intense flames leaping out of the windows of the top two stories at a high rate of speed as black smoke billowed behind them.
The fire started on the second floor and extended to the third floor. A beauty salon on the first floor did not appear to be damaged.
No firefighters were injured.
