A man behind the wheel of his car died after he was shot in the head Monday afternoon, which forced him to lose control of his vehicle and strike a pedestrian in Queens, police said.
The NYPD said police responded to the St. Albans intersection around 5 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Chopper 4 captured a light-colored SUV crashed up against a building near 117th Road and Farmers Boulevard.
It wasn't immediately clear where the shooting had taken place, or how far the 66-year-old driver had traveled before coming to a stop.
Police said the car struck a female pedestrian before coming to a stop. Both the driver and the 23-year-old woman were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver, identified as William Alcindor, later died from his injuries, police said.
"He always had a smile. I can’t remember William being angry about anything," said his sister-in-law, Magalie Alcindor.
The woman injured was recovering from her leg injuries at the hospital, police said.

Police believe that Alcindor was a bystander who simply got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The suspect in the shooting is believed to be a male between 15-18 years old, according to police. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, blue shorts and white Nike Air Force Ones. He ran off after the shooting, and police were still searching for him Tuesday.
Surveillance video showed a group of people hanging out near the corner of 117th Road and Farmers Boulevard just before 5 p.m. Monday, when they suddenly scrambled. Detectives said that's the moment the gunshots were fired.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information in connection to the shooting is urged to contact police.
