Dead Man Found on Train Halts Subway Service: NYPD

A man was found dead on a subway train Friday morning, prompting an emergency response that halted subway lines and mucked up the morning commute for thousands.

Police say the 57-year-old man was found on an A train at the Jay Street-Metrotech station in Brooklyn around 8:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has not been identified; a cause of death remains unclear.

The police response suspended or delayed service on the Eighth Avenue and some Sixth Avenue lines through the morning rush hour. At one point, the Long Island Rail Road was cross-honoring MetroCard fares.

Service has since resumed with delays. The incident prompted the MTA to remind customers they can fill out a form to get excuse notes for being late.

It's not the first time a dead man on a train has been blamed for subway delays this year. In January, a man believed to be in his 50s was found dead on a Q train at the new Second Avenue station at 96th Street. Authorities said at the time he was believed to have been homeless and likely died of natural causes.
