Quadruple Shooting in Newark; Police Apply Tourniquet to Save Woman

NBC Universal, Inc.

Two men and two women were wounded in a Sunday afternoon shooting in Newark, city officials said.

Four people were shot in a Newark neighborhood Sunday afternoon in what police believe was a targeted shooting.

Two men and two women were injured by gunfire near Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street around 4:15 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Brian O'Hara said. The shooting occurred in the street, he said, but several of the victims ran into a nearby liquor store after the shooting.

Two responding officers applied a tourniquet to one of the woman's legs to stop her from bleeding out, O'hara said. She was originally listed in critical condition; all four victims are now stable.

Three of the victims were taken to nearby hospitals while the fourth victim, one of the men, made it to a hospital on his own.

O'Hara stressed the investigation is in its preliminary stages but so far detectives believe the shooting was not random.

No specific suspect details were immediately available. The police investigation is ongoing.
