Congresswoman Louise Slaughter is expected to be released from the upstate hospital where the western New York Democrat has spent most of the past month recuperating from a broken leg suffered in a fall.
WHEC-TV reports that the 82-year-old lawmaker is expected to be released Friday from Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Slaughter broke her left femur when she tripped on uneven pavement and fell while crossing a midtown street on April 2. She was in the city for an event honoring women in politics.
Slaughter had surgery at a Manhattan hospital before transferring to Strong, where she underwent physical therapy.
Slaughter was elected to Congress in 1986. She's preparing for her re-election campaign in the newly redrawn 25th Congressional District.
