Students at least two area schools held rallies Thursday to show solidarity with the racially charged protests at the University of Missouri.
Photos of demonstrators holding "black lives matter" and #insolidaritywithmizzou signs at Columbia University and Monmouth University were posted to social media Thursday, after protests over racial strife at Missouri spurred the resignation of that university system's president..
Marches at Monmouth University could be seen walking in the rain chanting, "What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now!".
And at Columbia, demonstrators picketed outside Low Memorial Library, placing a placard in the arms of the school's iconic Alma Mater sculpture.
Several protesters at Columbia also posted photos with the hashtag #insolidaritywithyale. Yale, like Missouri, has played site to racially charged protests in the wake of a controversial email about culturally insensitive Halloween costumes and a Facebook post about a fraternity hosting a "white girls only" party.
Several other schools across the country have also staged similar solidarity rallies.
