Driver, 23, Arrested in Crash That NJ Teen

Nicholas M. Camasco, also of Bloomfield, turned himself in Thursday

Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the crash earlier this month that killed a star high school athlete less than a block from her home in Bloomfield, N.J., authorities said.

Nicholas M. Camasco, also of Bloomfield, turned himself in Thursday and was charged with vehicular homicide and aggravated assault by auto.

Camasco was driving the 2000 Chevy Camaro that struck the 2007 Honda Civic in which 16-year-old Christina Lembo was a passenger the night of Saturday, Sept. 29, prosecutors said. He'd been speeding from the opposite direction.

Lembo was pronounced dead at University Hospital. Four others -- two occupants of the Civic and two occupants of the Camaro -- sustained life-threatening injuries.

Camasco stayed on the scene but after several days of investigation, "facts were developed that warranted the filing of charges," said Chief Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly.

The case will still be sent to the grand jury.

Camasco is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail. Attorney information wasn't immediately available.

Lembo was a junior and star soccer player at Bloomfield High School. Friends have been memorializing her since her death with flowers and pictures at the accident site and online tributes.
