A man standing outside a building in Jersey City was nearly killed when an out-of-control car came screaming down the sidewalk, nearly hitting him, surveillance video shows.
"No one could have survived that impact," the man, Jay Santiago, said of the terrifyingly close call on Ocean Avenue on Feb. 9. "If that would have hit me, there's no way on God's earth I would have survived that impact."
Video shows the Ford Taurus flying down the sidewalk, smashing through multiple streetlight posts and nearly hitting Santiago, who had just stepped outside to smoke. Santiago said it happened so quickly, he hardly realized what was happening until it was over.
"It was coming so quick. It came like 70 miles an hour, 80 miles an hour on the sidewalk," he said.
The driver, 47-year-old Brian Wilson, was arrested and charged with DWI. Attorney information for the man wasn't immediately available.
"I'm very lucky to be alive," said Santiago.
