Five people were hurt when a car plowed into a Staten Island restaurant, shattering the storefront and crushing furniture before coming to a rest in the middle of the business, fire officials and witnesses say.

The FDNY says a vehicle lost control and crashed into the front of a restaurant at 26 Jefferson Blvd. in Annadale at about 7:30 p.m. Friday.

"I thought a bomb went off, and everybody just went flying. And glass was flying all over the place. It was horrific," said patron Diane Fry. "Thank God nobody got killed."

Five people were hurt, but four declined medical attention, the FDNY said.

One man was taken to Staten Island University South Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with minor injuries.
