Car Crashes into SoHo Storefront

A car crashed into a SoHo storefront Tuesday evening, heavily damaging the structure and forcing a street closure as firefighters, paramedics and building officials responded to the scene.

The car plowed into the store at Canal and Mercer streets just after 5:30 p.m., after it apparently left the roadway and jumped the curb.

The vehicle has since been pulled from the storefront. The driver was taken to Bellevue Hospital with trauma, authorities said. She is in serious but stable condition.

Officials from the Department of Buildings are at the scene checking the structural integrity of the two-story building.

Canal Street remains closed between Broadway and Church.
