Construction Company Slapped With Violations After Fatal Building Collapse

SP&K Construction Company gets 9 violations after the building collapse

A construction company has been slapped with nine violations a day after the collapse of a Brooklyn building that killed a construction worker. DeMarco Morgan reports.

The New York City Buildings Department has filed nine violations against the company that was in charge of construction at the Brooklyn building that collapsed Tuesday afternoon, killing a worker.

The SP&K Construction Company was in charge of the construction project at the Brighton Beach building, according to officials.

The company received violations Wednesday for defective construction vents, missing guard rails, inadequate housekeeping, no vertical protective netting and improper storage of materials.

The five-story building on Brighton Fifth Street collapsed suddenly Tuesday afternoon, trapping three people. One worker was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and later died.

A preliminary investigation indicates concrete being poured from the top caused the third floor to collapse, bringing down the second floor and everything else beneath it.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is launching its own investigation into possible safety violations.

The company did not return calls for comment.
