A Bronx woman has been sentenced to a year in prison for providing cosmetic silicone injections at her home.
Whalesca Castillo also was ordered Monday to forfeit $100,000.
Authorities say she imported liquid silicone from the Dominican Republic and gave injections to women for buttocks enhancement.
Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara says Castillo's "underground augmentation factory" endangered lives.
The prosecutor says Castillo remained open for business even after pleading guilty.
In late 2010, investigators recovered evidence that included bottles with silicone residue, needles, bloody gauze and dozens of tubes of instant super-glue. They say unlicensed practitioners sometimes use the glue to seal puncture wounds.
