Briana Ojeda Remembered as an Angel at Funeral

The 11-year-old died after a cop refused to give her CPR as she suffered an asthma attack, her family says.

Loved ones said goodbye today to the Brooklyn girl who died from what her parents say was a combination of an illness and a police officer's neglect.

Eleven-year-old Briana Ojeda died last Friday from an asthma attack. Her mother was driving her to hospital when she turned the wrong way on a one way street. That's where Carmen Ojeda says as an NYPD officer approached her car she told him her daughter wasn't breathing and begged him to give the girl mouth to mouth.

She says the officer told her he didn't know CPR and then delayed her from continuing on to the hospital.

On Tuesday, Officer Alfonso Mendez has now been suspended without pay and could face administrative charges.

During the funeral for the young girl at St. Francis Xavier Church in Park Slope, Brooklyn, the young girl's father, Michael, read a poem in which he said of his daughter, "Your love is still our guide.  Thou we can not see you, you are always by our side."

Before going to the cemetery, a horse drawn hearse bearing the girl's body passed the home she shared with her family.

The sight of her white casket brought many neighbors to tears.

Said one woman, "She was such an angel."
