Hot dam! New York City waters had a rare visitor earlier this week — a beaver.

The animal was seen in the Hudson River on Monday, according to Upper West Site news site The West Side Rag.

Beavers used to be plentiful in the area a few hundred years ago, but were practically made extinct as they were hunted for their pelts and driven out as the city developed and their habitat was lost.

As waters around New York City have cleaned up (or at least gotten less disgusting) in recent years, there have been a couple of animal sightings some thought impossible or improbable just a few years ago.

A whale was spotted in the Hudson River down by the Statue of Liberty in 2016. And this isn't the first beaver to make its way to the big city, with a fellow marine-loving rodent seen in the Bronx River just over a decade ago.
