Another dead bottlenose dolphin has been found in the same New Jersey river where a debate has raged over whether a pod of 16 dolphins there could survive the winter.
The animal was spotted Tuesday in the Shrewsbury River by workers on the Route 36 bridge linking Sea Bright and Highlands Tuesday afternoon. It was badly decomposed.
Tests were planned Wednesday to determine whether the dead dolphin was one of those whose presence last year in the Shrewsbury River touched off a heated debate.
Some activists wanted to intervene and get the dolphins out of the waterway; federal wildlife officials decided to let nature take its course.
If it is determined to have been part of the river pod, the dolphin would be the fourth from the Shrewsbury to have died.
