20-Year-Old New Jersey Man Dies in Skiing Accident on New York Mountain

It's the second skiing fatality in the past month at Hunter

New York State Police say a 20-year-old New Jersey man has died while skiing in the Catskill Mountains.

Troopers say Zachary Thompson, of Cream Ridge in Monmouth County, was skiing Monday at Hunter Mountain in Greene County when he lost control on the Racers Edge trail. Police say he slid for a distance before leaving the expert trail and hitting several trees.

Thompson was brought down the mountain by the ski patrol and treated by paramedics before being pronounced dead.

Troopers say his death is being investigated as an accident.

It's the second skiing fatality in the past month at Hunter, located about 100 miles north of New York City. A 58-year-old man from Orange County, New York, died Feb. 8 after he lost control on another expert trail and hit several trees.
