An off-duty police officer was jumped by a group of men who smashed a bottle over his head and stole his gun, the NYPD said.
The officer was attacked on Carter Avenue in the Mount Hope neighborhood of the Bronx shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Four people jumped the officer and struck him on the head with a bottle, police said. The officer suffered a laceration on his head and was hospitalized in stable condition.
The officer's odd-duty firearm was stolen and is still missing, according to police.
One of the four suspects was arrested later on Sunday, but police are still searching for the other three men and the stolen gun.
