Man Punched in Head, Falls on Subway Platform, Struck by Oncoming Train: Police

A man in the Union Square subway station was punched in the head by two strangers, then fell to the ground and was hit in the head by an oncoming train, authorities say.

The 41-year-old victim is expected to survive his injuries, which include multiple cuts to his head, fractures to his face and the base of his skull and bleeding on the brain. 

Police said he was standing on the subway platform at Union Square early Saturday when two strangers approached him. The men had a dispute, then the pair started punching the victim in the head. 

He fell on the platform and was struck by an oncoming Q train, police said. 

He was treated by emergency personnel and brought to a hospital. 

Police are searching for the attackers.
