Comedian Jon Stewart and his wife have picked up a bull that went on the lam before it was caught by NYPD officers in Queens Friday morning.
The Angus bull was being unloaded from a truck at a slaughterhouse near York College in Jamaica at about 10 a.m. when it broke free and went on the run, according to the NYPD.
Video from the scene showed the bull running through a field. At one point, the bull can be seen charging a person as several other onlookers run away.
Cops caught up with the breakout bovine on a campus green and used a rope to lasso the animal. Officers then fired two tranquilizer darts into the bull's rump to subdue it.
Officers took the bull to Animal Care & Control in Brooklyn, where Stewart and his wife Tracey went to pick it up and bring to the Farm Sanctuary's shelter in Watkins Glen, New York, according to a spokeswoman for the shelter.
The couple are known animal advocates and last year announced they would be transforming their New Jersey farm into a center for neglected animals.
The location will become the fourth property affiliated with Farm Sanctuary, an animal advocacy organization that was founded in 1986 to combat factory farming and encourage awareness about farm animals. It's set to open in 2017.
Friday was the second time cattle escaped from a slaughterhouse in the area this year. In January another bovine escapee ran around the neighborhood.
That escapee was later rescued by an animal lover, named after Freddie Mercury and taken to a sanctuary in New Jersey.
Also in January, NYPD officers paid $40 to bail out a goat that escaped a slaughterhouse on Merrick Avenue, then took the animal to a rescue on Long Island. The cops nicknamed the goat Merrick.
