3-Alarm Warehouse Inferno Erupts Near Bronx Gas Station; 2 Firefighters Injured

A three-alarm fire erupted at a Bronx warehouse near a gas station early Sunday morning, injuring two firefighters, fire officials say.

Firefighters received a call about a three-alarm fire at the Tuck-It-Away Self Storage warehouse near Walton Avenue and the Deegan Expressway in Mott Haven around 12:15 a.m., FDNY officials said.

Two firefighters sustained bumps and bruises, but were otherwise fine, fire officials said. No one was inside at the time of the fire, and there were no other injuries.

About 138 firefighters were at the scene battling the blaze from outside the warehouse as they tried to protect a nearby BP gas station, officials said. Thick, black smoke could be seen billowing from the second story windows of the warehouse by 7:30 a.m.

Fire authorities say they believe the fire started from the second or third floor of the six-story building. The cause is still under investigation.
