Twenty members of a Newburgh-based violent drug trafficking gang, known as the “Southside Gang,” are charged in a federal indictment unsealed Wednesday, law enforcement officials said.
Charges against the gang members include racketeering, drug trafficking, robbery, and murder.
Eighteen gang members were arrested in early morning raids by the FBI’s Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, officials said.
The gang sold heroin, crack cocaine, and marijuana in an area known as the Southside, and committed numerous acts of violence, including murder, to protect its territory from rival gangs, the indictment said.
Gang members arrested will appear in federal court Wednesday in White Plains.
