Two pedestrians were killed after being hit by cars in separate crashes on the same street on Staten Island Monday night, officials say.
Around 11 p.m., 31-year-old Shannon Lies was crossing Hylan Boulevard at Arden Avenue when she was hit by a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis, the NYPD said.
She was taken to Staten Island University Hospital South with severe head trauma and was later pronounced dead.
Chris Egerci, the manager at Mike's Place Diner in Annandale, told NBC 4 New York that Lies was walking to the bus stop after finishing her shift when she was hit. Egerci said Lies was about six months pregnant and has 4- and 5-year-old daughters.
She had worked at Mike's Place in Annandale for two years and had previously worked at the New Dorp location for several years, according to Egerci. He said she was a hard worker and a kind woman who was looking forward to the birth of her child.
Earlier in the evening, a 61-year-old man was hit by a car at Hylan Boulevard and Bay Street, the NYPD said.
A Honda Fit hit Steven Turetsky around 7:30 p.m. as he was crossing Bay Street outside of the marked crosswalk, police said. Turetsky walked into the path of the car as it was approaching the intersection and was struck by the front bumper.

He was also taken to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he was pronounced dead.
The drivers in both crashes remained on scene and no arrests were made.
