A fast-moving fire in New Jersey early Saturday morning left two people dead, four people injured and more than two dozen people homeless authorities said.
The fire started just after 3:30 a.m. on the upper floors of a building on East 21st Street in Bayonne and quickly gutted the three-story, multi-family residence before firefighters were able to get the blaze under control.
Robert Angelini, 64, and his 65 year-old wife Frances were killed in the fire, police said.
Firefighters were able to rescue five people still inside the building when they arrived, officials said.
Four people, including a 6-year-old child and an 89-year-old woman were hospital zed with various injuries, police said.
"I couldn't see, couldn't breathe, it was probably the scariest thing in my life," said Daniel Conway, whose home was destroyed in the blaze.
The Red Cross said they were assisting four families displaced by the fire and an additional four families who were evacuated from an adjacent building as a precaution.
