10,000 Dead Fish Found Near Long Island Bridge

Officials say up to 10,000 dead fish were found near a bridge on Long Island about a month after an estimated 11,000 fish died in the area.

Town officials in Huntington tell Newsday the adult moss bunker fish died Thursday in Centerport Harbor after they became trapped and oxygen levels fell.

The fish were found near the Mill Pond bridge. Officials say there were too many fish in a small area and not enough predators.

Officials say they plan to keep the tidal gates open between the pond and the Suffolk County hamlet in hopes of flushing the fish further out into the Long Island Sound where they'll eventually sink.
