NJ Transit rail traffic into New York resumes with ‘limited service'; Amtrak faces delays

Monday commuters found themselves facing another day and another round of delays for New Jersey Transit and Amtrak. News 4’s Charles Watson reports. 

NJ Transit rail passengers heading into or out of Penn Station New York were facing delays of up to an hour Monday morning. Following an earlier suspension, Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line rail service have resumed with limited service.

The railroad said the delays are due to Amtrak overhead wire issues near Newark Penn Station.

Eastbound Midtown Direct service into New York is being diverted to Hoboken. Raritan Valley Line Service is originating and ending at Newark Penn.

NJ Transit rail tickets are being cross-honored by PATH at the Newark, Hoboken and 33rd Street-NY stations. NJ Transit and private carrier buses are also honoring rail tickets.

Amtrak service restored between Philadelphia and New York

Amtrak service was also suspended between New York (NYP) and Philadelphia (PHL) due to the "overhead wire damage," the company said. The service was restored around 12 p.m., with delays up to an hour between Newark and New York.

Travelers who were heading home after Thanksgiving dealt with multiple headaches with a power outage at Philadelphia International Airport over the weekend as well as Amtrak delays on Monday. NBC10's Yukare Nakayama has the details.
