Martin McDonagh's new play “A Behanding in Spokane” – premiering on Broadway, with previews starting February 15 – has the kind of plot description that makes you do a double take. To wit:
“Carmichael (Christopher Walken) has been searching for his missing left hand for over a quarter of a century. Enter two bickering lovebirds (Anthony Mackie and Zoe Kazan) with a hand to sell…”
What? He’s been missing his what, now? Left hand? Exactly. Throw in the comedic timing of Walken (who continues to live up to every inch of the hype), the always affable Sam Rockwell, who plays a hotel clerk with an aversion to gunfire, and McDonagh’s darkly witty pen (he’s the scribe behind “Lieutenant of Inishmore” from a few years back, and was just nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay for “In Bruges,” the black comedy-thriller with Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell) and you have a night of theater that probably won’t suck. “A Behanding” is set for a 16-week run at the Schoenfeld Theatre.
