A woman was slashed in the neck by an attacker wielding at least part of a glass bottle, according to police sources. NBC New York’s Jessica Cunnington reports.
A 25-year-old woman was slashed in the neck by an attacker with a broken glass bottle on a Manhattan sidewalk, according to police.
The woman was near the corner of Wooster Street and Broome Street in SoHo around 3 p.m. Monday when she was attacked, police said at a press conference. She suffered a slash wound to her neck and was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition after Good Samaritans stepped in to help her with her injuries. She was undergoing surgery after losing a great deal of blood.
The suspect allegedly used part of a glass bottle as a weapon, according to police, who said the attack was entirely unprovoked.

The incident came right after the suspect, a 45-year-old man, had attacked another woman on the same street. In that earlier assault, he allegedly approached a 29-year-old woman from behind and bashed her over the head with a bottle. The victim ran off and was not hurt, police said.
Police said the suspect, identified by police as Muslim Brunson, was caught within minutes of the second attack and was taken into custody. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, attempted assault and weapon possession.

Attorney information for Brunson was not immediately clear.

CORRECTION: Police and law enforcement sources previously stated the suspect, Brunson, had another alias he went by. That was not the case, as another individual's name was mistakenly associated with his identification number in the NYPD system.
