19-year-old charged with deaths of 2 passengers in violent Southern State Parkway wreck

Another two people were seriously hurt; footage from the scene showed the car flipped upside down, its body a mangled wreck

Two people died in a fiery crash near exit 30 on the southern state parkway Sunday night. Four people were in the car, two of whom survived, including the driver who’s was charged in the death of his own sister and a friend. NBC New York’s Pei-Sze Cheng reports.

Two women in their early 20s died in a single-vehicle crash on Long Island's Southern State Parkway late Sunday, and another two people were seriously injured, New York State Police said.

On Monday, state police said it was around 11 p.m. the night before when the driver of a 2016 Dodge Dart was "traveling in and out of lanes at a high rate of speed" lost control and crashed into a tree off the parkway near exit 30.

The two women riding in the back of the car, 21-year-old Hailey Dsouza and 23-year-old Crystal Alba-Figueroa, were pronounced dead at the scene. Alba-Figueroa was ejected from the car in the crash. Police said the 19-year-old driver and another 23-year-old riding in the front passenger seat were seriously injured.

Jaden Dsouza, who police identified as the driver and is the brother of one of the victims, was charged with driving while impaired, manslaughter, and aggravated vehicular homicide, among other charges. Attorney information for the 19-year-old was not immediately known. He was set to face a judge when his condition improved.

Footage from the scene showed the car flipped upside down, its body a mangled wreck.
