Alberta Ferretti to Send “Real” Women Down the Runway

Alberta Ferretti announced this week she'll be replacing the usual troupe of models for "real" women at her Pitti Uomo runway show this January.

"Real" women for Ferretti include porcelain-skinned celebrities that she also considers her "muses," like Camilla Belle, Marpessa and Carmen Dell'Orefice. In addition, a few workaday professionals (including a blogger!) will make maiden stomps down the catwalk as well.

We can't help but be reminded of the legendary SATC episode in which Carrie, tapped to walk as a "real" Dolce & Gabbana model, faceplants in front of Heidi Klum, though hopefully, no such tragedy will transpire at Ferretti. That said, as increasingly more designers opt to put runway-amateur celebrities and stylish folk in their fashion shows, it bears mentioning that models are professional women, too, and strutting your stuff in implausibly tall heels ain't always as easy as it looks.
