Who: Christopher Paul Stelling is simply a man with a guitar and a number of stories to tell. He is somewhat fresh to the local scene, but his uncanny stage presence and ability to captivate the crowd has the appearance of a battle tested New York performer.
What: Stelling is a troubadour in the truest sense. His songs find their roots in the storytelling methods of southern folk music. His meticulous finger plucking guitar playing couples well with his commanding vocal style as he weaves the two around stellar songwriting that encompasses subjects near and dear to early American folk artists.
When: Stelling could command an audience as large as Town Hall or as small as a subway platform, but for now he is making the rounds at various New York venues winning over the city one person at a time. His next area shows are Aug. 23 at Mercury Lounge with David Vandervelde and Aug. 27 at Brooklyn Bowl as part of the Daytrotter Barnstormer Tour.
Where: Stelling grew up in Daytona Beach, but he took the last ten years to taste what all of this country had to offer. He lived in a hodgepodge of different cities before deciding to settle down in Brooklyn. Though his kind-hearted disposition may stop him from ever becoming a “real” New Yorker, the city has welcomed him with open arms.
