Hot Ticket: Lord of the Rings Live

Attention, Frodophiles: It's Lord of the Rings. With a 300-piece orchestra. At Radio City. Get your credit card out.

The Event: For this truly unusual (and likely fairly epic) night, a big-screen showing of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring will be accompanied by 300 musicians -- including the 21st Century Orchestra, The Collegiate Chorale and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus conducted by Ludwig Wicki -- performing Howard Shore's Oscar-winning score live.

What We're Looking Forward To: You don't have to love Tolkien to appreciate the sheer musical bombast involved in this event. Usually, only silent movies get the live-music accompaniment treatment. How often do you get to hear a swelling, cinematic score performed live to a contemporary film? Beyond that, you can count on this event to draw die-hard Ringheads out of their homes -- this is their pilgrimage to Mecca. (And you know what that means: costumes!)

Where and When: Radio City Music Hall; Friday and Saturday, October 9 and 10, 7:30PM.

Cost: $54-150
