Some movie stars say returning to the stage can be time to get back up to speed, but not Jane Fonda.
Her return Monday night in "33 Variations" made it seemed like she'd never been away.
Fonda commanded the stage and, backed by a strong supporting cast that included Samantha Mathis and Colin Hanks, showed she hasn't lost a step, but did so without overshadowing her fellow actors.
Written and directed by Moses Kaufman, "33 Variations" isn't quite up to Fonda and her supporting cast, but it does explore an interesting love of intellectual curiosity.
The play runs through May 24 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre at 230 W. 49th St.
