A Glimpse of Brazil in Brooklyn
Ranjan Ramchandani and his quintet, Regional de NY, gather every other Sunday at Beco Bar in Williamsburg to give Brazilians and locals alike a taste of Brazilian nostalgia. Performing primarily choro, a popular music from Rio de Janeiro dating back to the 19th century, the group allows for hours of carefree singing, dancing, sipping of caipirinhas and snacking of linguiça against the backdrop of top-tier Brazilian musicianship. See Rodrigo Ursaia on flute/sax, Justin Douglas on mandolin, Cesar Garabini on seven-string guitar and Kahil Nayton on cavaquinho.
